How age verification works

In regions whose laws require it, SpiceMatch adds an age-verification step before any adult content is viewable. It runs through a third-party provider, and we are careful about what we keep: a pass or fail result and a reference token, not your ID. Here is exactly how it works and why it is built this way.

Who has to verify

Not everyone. Verification is required only in jurisdictions whose laws mandate a commercial age check. We determine your jurisdiction from your IP address, then apply the right rule. If you are in a covered region, you verify before adult content shows. If you are not, the date-of-birth confirmation at sign-up is all you do. See why some states require verification.

What the step looks like

When verification is required, you are routed to a third-party provider before adult content unlocks. The provider runs the check on its own systems, which is the important part for your privacy. You complete the provider's process, and the result comes back to us as a simple pass or fail.

The exact method depends on the provider and the local law, and it happens on the vendor's side, not inside the SpiceMatch app.

What we store, and what we do not

This is the part people worry about, so here it is plainly:

• We store a pass or fail result and a reference token.
• We do not store your ID images.
• We do not store your document numbers.

The verification runs on the vendor's systems. We keep the outcome and a token that ties it to your account, not the underlying documents. So even where verification is required, SpiceMatch is not holding your ID. See your data and what we store.

Why a third party does it

Using a dedicated verification provider keeps the sensitive part of the process off our systems. The provider specializes in this and is built to handle ID data securely. By keeping only a pass or fail and a token on our side, we limit what we hold, which limits what could ever be exposed. It is a deliberate design choice to verify age without becoming a store of identity documents.

After you verify

Once you pass, adult content is viewable on your account in that region. You do not redo it every session. If you change regions, the rule for your new location applies, which is determined again from your IP address.

If verification fails or will not complete

If the check fails or gets stuck:

• Make sure you meet the age requirement, since a fail can simply mean the provider could not confirm you are 18+.
• Try the provider's flow again, in case it was a technical hiccup.
• Do not use a VPN or location spoofing to route around it. That is against our terms and is not a fix.

If you believe you passed but content is still locked, contact support through the contact page with your account email and the rough time you verified.

VPNs and spoofing

Using a VPN, proxy, or fake location to dodge verification or a regional block violates our terms. The check exists to keep the platform legal where you are, not as an obstacle to engineer around.
