Conversation guide
AI companion memory test: does your chat remember?
An AI companion with memory should carry useful details into your next conversation. Try a preference, an unfinished plan and a correction. The scorecard below records what happened in your chats.
Use the same character and account for each visit. Pick ordinary, fictional details so you can test the experience without sharing anything personal. Leave this page open while you try the prompts; reloading clears your selections.
Try three memory checks
Use these fictional details in a conversation. Return here to mark what the companion remembered.
An ordinary preference
- Tell it
- "For this chat, my favorite dessert is lemon cake."
- Ask later
- After a few other messages, ask: "What dessert did I choose?"
A plan on your next visit
- Make a pretend plan
- "On Sunday, let us visit a bookstore."
- Return to the chat
- On your next visit, ask: "What did we plan for Sunday?"
A corrected preference
- Change your choice
- Start with "For our imaginary trip, I would pick the beach." Later, say: "Actually, make it a mountain cabin."
- Check the new choice
- Ask: "Which place did I choose in the end?"

What to try on your next visit
After your first conversation, close the chat and return later. Ask about the detail without putting the answer in the question. "What did we decide to cook?" checks recall. "Remember that we decided to cook pasta?" supplies the answer.
If the reply is wrong, give one short reminder and try a follow-up. Record both results. A companion that responds well to a correction may still be enjoyable to talk with, even when the first answer misses a detail.
| What you are checking | Ask this | Look for this |
|---|---|---|
| A preference | "Which kind of café would I choose?" | The preference you mentioned earlier |
| An unfinished plan | "Where did we leave our weekend plan?" | Your agreed choice and the next open decision |
| A correction | "What should we order this time?" | Your newer preference, rather than the one you replaced |

Chat history and memory are different
Chat history is the conversation you can scroll through. A saved preference is a detail the product keeps for later use. An answer can also come from the recent messages still available in the current conversation.
That is why a later visit is useful. Staying in one short exchange tests immediate context; returning later checks whether the detail carries over. Starting a separate chat is another test, but record it separately: apps handle new conversations differently.
SpiceMatch's relationship memory is tied to your conversations with a creator. Return to that creator when you want to continue a plan, pick up a shared joke or correct a remembered preference.
Choose details that make a difference
An exact trivia answer is easy to score, but it may not tell you much about the conversation you want. Try something that affects the next reply.
- If you like short messages, ask for a brief answer and see whether the pace holds.
- If your imaginary trip has a train-only rule, ask for the next leg of the journey.
- If you changed your mind about dinner, see whether the new choice appears in the plan.
Then read the whole reply. Does it answer your question? Does it ask something you want to respond to? Remembering one fact is less useful if the conversation stops being enjoyable.
What your score tells you
The scorecard counts the outcomes you select. It does not measure an app's overall accuracy or compare other users' conversations. Repeat the same prompts when you change a plan, a character or a memory setting, and compare your own results.
Before paying for a memory upgrade, check what the plan actually changes. More saved facts, a longer recent conversation and an editable memory screen are different features. The AI companion buying guide covers these purchase decisions alongside pricing and message allowances.
Keep the conversation going
Once you find a character you like, give the next chat a small purpose. Finish a story, plan an imaginary day out or ask for a choice between two things you enjoy. Our conversation starters include opening messages and follow-ups.
